Να πουλιέται για τη δόση της, μάλλον απίθανο· στο μισοσκόταδο φάνταζε τόσο δροσερή, σχεδόν άσπιλη. Τότε; Μήπως έχει κανένα ορφανό, καμιά μάνα κατάκοιτη; Έναν πατέρα;

"The Little One of Montparnasse" (Originally written in Greek)
He had hurried past her, seemingly indifferent.
What could have been going through that little head of hers when she sidled up and offered herself to him for a hundred francs? Had she taken a fancy to him? Nonsense! He simply wasn't any worse than that squat, middle-aged, pot-bellied fellow, ogling her at that very moment.
Selling herself for her fix? Rather unlikely; in the half-light, she looked so fresh, almost unsullied. Then what? An orphan to care for, perhaps? A bedridden mother? A father?
Such thoughts crossed his mind as he walked away from the poorly lit corner where they had just crossed paths.
The scent of her body still intoxicated him; without stopping, he turned to cast her one last, sidelong glance. If only he had not a hundred, but a whole thousand; ah, if only he had them—and the nerve to lay them in her shapely little hand, right then and there!
